Chairman's Message

“Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom” Oprah Winfrey

Welcome to Black River Primary and Infant School’s official website – a testament to our achievements since inception.

For more than 7 decades, our school has been serving the Black River community and its environs; working to improve the lives of our students, guided by the motto “Together We Build”.

This website serves to showcase our achievements and to provide useful and timely imformation on our school’s growth and development.  We are very excited to share with you our experiences growing and building together as we partner with various stakeholders to provide quality care and education in an innovative, inclusive and enabling environment thereby creating socially conscious and productive Jamaicans.

We embrace the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information’s National Shared Vision “each learner will maximize his/her potential in an enriching learner-centred education environment with maximum use of learning technologies supported by committed qualified competent effective and professional educators and staff”.  Notwithstanding the view that “children succeed when families, schools and communities work together”.  Against this background, we thank all those who have contributed to our many achievements over the years: parents, teachers, community members, past students, the business community, donors, among others.

As we forge ahead with the new National Standards Curriculum (NSC) and new demands, we are seeking everyone's support now more than ever. We applaud the active engagement of our Parent-Teachers' Association as parents and guardians partner with us to provide crucial support and build the confidence of their children.  We welcome your continued assistance in helping your child or children in completing home work assignments and school projects. We're also seeking to revive our Past Students' Association, making it a duly constituted body that can support the school academically, culturally and financially and maintain the Past Students' Archives.

As I close, I charge you to get involved and join us in beseeching God’s guidance as we lead this noble institution. “Teach [us] to do thy will; for thou art [our] God: thy spirit is good; lead [us] into the land of uprightness. (Psalm 143:10)

Warmest regards,

Kereen Tatham-Brown (MET, B.Ed)
