Principal's Message

Welcome to the Black River Primary and Infant School where, “Together We Build”. Our school is an excellent place for children to grow and learn. Our mission is to provide a better way of life through academic, social, cultural and practical activities so that individual needs and aspirations are met, the right sense of values and attitudes are acquired and maintained for the enhancement of the individual, the community, the region and the nation. It is our obligation to educate children; we are responsible for providing a quality education for each child here.”

The Black River Primary & Infant School is known for strong family partnerships and a long tradition of academic excellence. We provide an enriching, engaging and challenging curriculum that will prepare students for success while at the school and for the years that follow as we can boast of one of the best cohorts of dedicated, hardworking. caring and reliable teachers. We believe that parents are the most important educators in the lives of their children. Hence, we strive to build strong, lasting partnership for the future. Our families and well wishers are always welcome to visit, volunteer in the classroom, and participate in school partnerships such as Parent Teachers’ Association.

This year we have the continued implementation of the New Standard Curriculum which will see changes at different levels of the school system. According to Mark Victor Hansen … with each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful. So, as we encourage and prepare our students for their future in this island of Jamaica that we love I implore them to participate fully, take risks, be self-advocates, and create lasting memories and relationships with their peers and teachers that they will be working with during this change. In addition, our students are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources and opportunities available to them including the library, computer lab, school sports day, prefect body, clubs and societies team building activities, after school academic and athletic offerings. All our activities for 2017-2018 academic year will evolve from our school’s motto: Together We Build.

Stephen Covey states that, “There are only two lasting bequests we can give our children-one is roots, the other wings”, so as we continue in the quest for future leaders let us give our students wings to soar to their potential as Together We Build.

Sharon Whyte
